This museum located in Sorges is dedicated to one of Frances most prized products, the truffle. While it shares the traits of any museum, offering several exhibits covering the history of truffles, some of their uses, as well as some of the more spectacular and noteworthy truffle finds throughout France. The Museum takes their desire to share their passion for truffles one step farther.

They will take you on a guided walk through the "Truffières path" which shows you the full process of the cultivation of truffles. Interesting side note that you may find discussed at the Museum: The ability to smell the scent that Truffles produce is an inborn trait. This is also true for animals which causes some of them to be good assistants in the hunt for truffles. The museum is a must for anyone visiting the area, but please call ahead as it has irregular hours.

Bergerac Tobacco Museum.

The Musee du Tabac (The National Tobacco Museum) in Bergerac is a site for those who love tobacco as well as the non-smoker alike. The ground may actually be enjoyed by a non-smoker as the whole facility is a no smoking area. This helps to protect the exhibits and maintain the quality of the tobacco displayed. The Museum traces the history of tobacco.

As well as the changing methods of cultivation and use; pipe tobacco, cigars and cigarettes as well as snuff which is still popular in Europe. The exhibits and tours are interesting and informative but if the tobacco wouldn't be enough to draw you in, Maison Peyraréde in Place du Feu should be. This impressive building that houses the national museum, Maison Peyraréde in Place du Feu, boasts a handsome turreted break in the skyline.

Musée Régional de la Batellerie.

The Musée Régional de la Batellerie, also located in Bergerac, is a museum dedicated to wine. The museum covers the various stages of the wine making process. The viticulture displays, cover the grape growing portion of wine making as well as the proper harvesting and handling of the grapes. The aging and fermentation displays show the areas pride in the work and care put in at their local wineries.

There are exhibits and displays covering various grapes and the wines that they produce. There are also whole sections of the museum dedicated to the river trading culture, both past and present of Bergerac and the surrounding areas. Ignore the Cyrano de Bergerac statue located in the front square. He is likely a myth and certainly had no ties to the area that he shares his name with.
