Cahtau de Hautefort is one of the Dordogne areas most impressive Chateau. It is registered as a historical monument with the country of France.

In a style more common to the Loire Valley the two huge wings of the chateau, capped by even larger round towers loom over the village of Hautefort and all of the Auvézère Valley. The two wings encompass beautiful French style formal gardens.

The building itself is beautiful. It also contains many prized works of art and pieces of history. The building has its own history; built on the site of a 12th century chateau the life's work of Baron and Baroness de Bastard was rebuilding the chateaux. Tragically after it was completed in the 1960's the building was burnt to the ground. The Baron had passed by this time but the Baroness simply started over and the amazing chateau is the end result of her work.
