Chateau de Fénelon directions
Posted at the peak of a rocky approach is Chateau de Fénelon located between Sarlat and Souillac it keeps an ever watchful eye on the village of Saint Mondane.

The castle we see today consists mostly of improvements made by a 16th century owner, with little of the original 13th century construction remaining. Named Fenelon for the famed son of the 16th century owner, who would later go on to write, with his works being well read and published in the 1700's.

The turret's roofs are still made of lauze stone, while this was very popular for the era many roofs no longer use the material since it grows more and more costly as it be comes increasingly rare.

While not officially a museum the Chateau houses a collection of fine 15th and 16th century furniture as well as armour and weaponry.

Movie buffs may also enjoy knowing that portions of the Drew Berrymore film 'Ever After' were filmed at Chateau de Fénelon.
