We have heard of King Arthur, read about him, and seen movies attributing to his conquests. Learn about his territory from where he exiled Sir Lancelot, in the region of Dordogne.
Dordogne, a southwest region of France, was named after the river Dordogne that flows through the region itself. The French call it Périgord, blooming gardens, chateauxs and beautiful medieval villages and towns, forests, alluring countrysides, caves and rivers make Dordogne a very charming place, rapidly expanding its tourism industry by attracting visitors from all over the world.
Périgord sheltered prehistoric men and later, the Franks, the Romans and the Gauls. One can still see the remnants of their respective civilization in Périgord. The river Dordogne divided Périgord into two, forming the historic boundary between England and France during the period of brutal war of a Hundred Years. However, after the French Revolution, Périgord was given the name of Dordogne, a department of the Aquitaine. The banks of river Dordogne flourished with legendary castles that have witnessed centuries of victories and blends of different cultures. |
